PCPC3 fully supportive of Durbin amendment to save funding for cancer research at the DoD

PCPC3 urges the entire cancer community to support and get behind the Durbin amendment to the proposed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which will be debated by the U.S. Congress next week.

As written, the NDAA will effectively eliminate the entire Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) within the Department of Defense – inclusive of the Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) and other cancer research programs too. The PCRP has been a critical component of the nation’s prostate cancer research initiatives for the past 20+ years, and the largest source of federal funding designated exclusively exclusively for prostate cancer research.

Senator Durbin has proposed an amendment to the NDAA that would ensure that the CDMRP (and the PCRP) will continue to exist as an important and viable source of funding for cancer research (and prostate cancer research in particular).

PCPC3 urges patients and other members of the prostate cancer community – and other members of the cancer community too — to call or e-mail your Senators’ offices and to demand that they support the Durbin amendment to the NCAA.
